Daily Roddin’: August 28th, 2009
A big thanks goes out to Rob B., who was kind enough to let me drive his amazing car, the “24 Hours of LeMans” Commemorative Edition Corvette. This mean machine not only has all the goodies that GM could stuff into it-everything from weight-saving carbon fibre to a 6-speed manual transmission-but everything Rob could throw at it as well.
After the car left Bowling Green, Kentucky, in all its blue beauty, Rob installed a twin turbo system behind the rear tires, and stuffed the motor with 60-pound injectors. The result is an intensely powerful car that means business. Even idling at a stopsign, the motor rumbles unsteadily, as if to say “I’m idling, but I don’t have to enjoy it.”
This was by far the most amazing machine I have ever driven-and that includes the summer I spent driving these things. Nothing, absolutely nothing matches the power, the excitement, and the sheer joy of hearing that big engine rumble as you sprint through the gears, HUD speedometer flying towards the sky. To most people, it would have been a waste of gas, and a waste of greater resources to built and operate this machine. For true car folk, it’s a little slice of heaven on earth.
