Desperate times call for desperate measures, which is the “New GM” excuse for killing off the Pontiac brand. That still doesn’t make it right, but it looks like that’s the final word. Unlike Roger Penske’s purchase of Saturn and Koenigsegg’s early Christmas present, The General has turned down any and all offers to purchase Pontiac. Although beauties like this ’55 Pontiac two-door are unlikely to roll into showrooms anytime soon, great new cars like the Pontiac G8 will eventually be double-parked at car shows, surrounded by old men talking about the venerable brand in the same breath as Studebaker, Essex, and American Motors.
