South Beach Casino Annual Car Show
This past weekend marked another great car show at the South Beach Casino, just 30 minutes north of Winnipeg, MB. Although the ever-expanding resort & casino in Manitoba’s beautiful Interlake is best known for being a great getaway location, the staff & management have been pulling out all the stops to accommodate the car lovin’ crowd several times per season.
As with any good car show in these parts, anything and everything was welcomed with open arms. This Triumph TR-6 and the little red MG behind it made sure the British invasion was well represented.
Did we say anything & everything was welcomed? This baby blue 3rd-gen Chevy Cavalier and 2nd-gen Dodge Neon parked where other ‘tuners fear to tread-namely, wedged in amongst the big American muscle of years past.
Another new car that’s certainly not out of place here is the Autoclubs.ca car show cruiser. This Chevy HHR is the pride and joy of Gerald Henry, who also runs the Autoclubs.ca site with his son, and a small team of volunteer photographers. If you’re in need of a place to advertise your car-related wares, Autoclubs.ca has the technology and the traffic to make your advertising or sponsorship program a success!
If a spaceman from another planet landed at a car show, he or she would think that the River City Cruisers car club has a monopoly on showing off little versions of their cars at show & shines. That is, unless the alien happened to walk past Evel Dave Radey’s ’68 “General Lee” Dodge Charger, and noticed the tiny little version stuffed in the back. Check out our full-length article on Evel Dave’s sweet tribute ride here.
Come to think of it, the spaceman wouldn’t be able to see any of the cars. He would be inundated with people trying to find out what’s under the hood of his flying saucer.
This first-generation Pontiac Firebird was looking good in black at this year’s show. Although flat black is normally reserved for the rat rods, some musclecars such as this one look darn good with a satin polish as well.
There were only six Dodge Royal Lancer convertibles allowed into Canada in 1955, and two of them now call Winnipeg home. We’ll have a full-length article about this gorgeous machine later in the year, but check out our article on the other ’55 Lancer Convertible that calls Winnipeg home.
Gary Minchin and his ’33 Dodge Rat Rod is at every car show, especially this one. Gary’s car will soon be made famous when him and a friend will be playing “Bonnie and Clyde” on an upcoming charity run with the Prairie Dog Central. They’ll be holding up the train and taking all the money (in the form of donations) for a local charity. To read more about this “one piece at a time” Dodge, check out our full-length article on Winnipeg’s best-known rat rod.
What would a car show be without a Ford Coupe? What appears to be a flamed ’34 with some meaty tires under the back fenders was given a special place to show off its true beauty. This style of hot rodding may have peaked in the ’80s, but it’s still beautiful today.
We’ll leave you tonight with a highway-driving shot of Paul “Willy” Williamson and his wife Melanie heading home in their 1949 Pontiac two door coupe. The primered and patina’d machine has become a regular fixture on the local car scene, soaking up attention while Willy works on his next masterpiece for his feature, Willy’s Garage, every Friday in the Winnipeg Free Press.
That’s it for the website, but the pictures keep on rolling at our Facebook group. Check it out to see great shots from last weekend’s Pony Corral cruise night, courtesy of our newest staff photographer, Victoria Morningstar. Click Here to see all the action!
