Your Next Ride

Saying you’ve got a big 4×4 is a relative thing. Do you mean you have a physically large truck, like an International CXT? Did you put a huge suspension lift (or pussy out with a body lift) underneath it? Or if you’re like a lot of guys, you probably put a big set of tires underneath it. Not that there’s anything wrong with it; even city boys are getting into big rubber with the “donk” movement (WARNING: Clicking on the link will result in fugly cars, which may result in hysterical fits of laughter and/or prolonged nightmares. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.)

But do the wheels on your machine truly stack up against the hardcores like this eBay auction?

Of course not. That’s because he be rollin’ on Goodyear ag/industrial rims like the Ice Explorer seen a few months ago. When you put six of those tires on a 50-passenger bus, you have enough flotation to keep from falling through the Columbia Icefields. But when you have four of these tires on a 1/2 ton pickup frame and a teeny Jeep CJ body, you’ve got the flotation to, well, float.

Yeah, I said float-which explains the odd grain-auger flighting on the driveshaft. The motor would use that flighting to propel the machine through the water, kind of like a reverse jet-ski impeller. Or alternatively, it’s meant as a spare grain auger. Because you never know when a grain auger will come in handy.

But this Jeep/ Chevy/”whatever part was handy” at the time machine has its faults, too. The owner lists the truck as needing new brakes and the interior is “Le Tired.” By the looks of it, the back tires are going to be needing replacement soon, too, at $10,000 each (valve stem not included). However, it has a small block Chevy of some kind, and the work doesn’t look half bad. If you don’t count the Ted Nugent-esque zebra stripes, it’s a pretty sweet little ride.
