Although the Big 3 are all making a respective pony car again, the Mustang is the only one that’s seen continuous production since its introduction in 1964. Many of these specimens are from the good ol’ days when Mustang was the only contender in the domestic 2-door, rear-drive V8 sportscar field.
They just plain rock. AMX sports coupes were some of the most powerful, if underrated pony cars of the late ’60s/early ’70s. But don’t take my word for it; listen to just one of the many crazed AMC fanatics that spread the gospel of the legendary “4th manufacturer” of the Big 3.
With such a short convertible season in Canada, it’s actually surprising how many drop tops are seen on our streets. And it’s not just fancy-schmancy restoration jobbies or high-end roadsters, either; low buck rides, kustoms, mini-trucks, and even primer rods are experiencing the joys of running around topless.
At last check Pontiac was still dead. Unfortunately, that’s the price we pay for living through an era when passion and excitement comes second to practicality and conformity. At least these import jobbies, like Toyota, are safer. Oh, wait…..
