Customer Appreciation Day Pt. 2

1966 Pontiac GTOAs promised yesterday, we have more pics of the Customer Appreciation Day show from a while back.  The show attracted everything from roadsters and street rods to classy muscle cars like this ’66 Pontiac GTO.  If you’re a subscriber, it’s worth checking out!

Black VW Beetle with original dealer-installed superchargerThis classy little Beetle might seem like just another bug.  However, it’s one of the few vee-dubs left on the road with a dealer-installed supercharger under the hood trunk lid.

Dealer-installed supercharger on a VW BeetleThe round, finned thing on top is the supercharger.  You can’t see it too well here, but the glass jar containing red fluid is the lubricating oil.  Apparently, the only way the supercharger can stay lubricated is by allowing a little bit of that red stuff to go through the supercharger, and end up in the motor where it gets burned off.  The supercharger nearly doubles the power of the stock engine, bringing it up to the 50+ horsepower range.

1st Generation Mustang ConvertibleThe weather was good & toasty, making it perfect convertible weather.  This gorgeous Mustang was one of many drop tops that showed up that day.  The Mercedes below is another one.

1932 Ford pickup on a Dakota truck chassisThis ’32 phantom extended cab pickup is probably the first and only street rod you’ll see built on what appears to be a Dodge Dakota pickup truck frame.  The beautiful yet beastly thing features 4-wheel drive and more leg room than any vehicle of its kind on the road.

Desoto ImperialI have no clue what this thing is, but it was by far the biggest car of the show.  According to the grill it was an “Imperial,” implicating that it was some kind of a Dodge product.  All we know was that it made for an imposing centrepiece of the show, and one that stayed right to the bitter end.

Flamed 1970 ChevelleFinally, check out this flamed Chevelle.  It was one of three Chevelles to show up, all equipped with big tires and huge engines.  Needless to say, it made for a real spectacle.

That’s it for today, but come back soon for more show coverage, and more great car photos.  Until then, keep it shiny side up!
