Today, no one outside of the Mary Kay empire would paint a car pink.  But back in the day, pink (and near-pink colours) were wildly popular.  The crazy thing is, it wasn’t even to support cancer charities or for guys to pretend they’re not jerks.  It was just a pretty colour to paint your car.
