Winnipeg World of Wheels sneak preview
So I snuck into the World of Wheels tonight as everyone was setting up, and this is what I found:
Rows upon rows of shiny (and not so shiny) steel, all over the damn place. Everything from gorgeous roadsters like this, to current model year Camaros, to a Ford Model T bus. You name it, it’s there this year.
This is Mike Seggie’s 1968 Plymouth Barracuda, currently being restored. Seggie died tragically while on a mission to Afghanistan with the Canadian Armed Forces. In his memory, his family (and anyone willing to lend a hand) are in the process of restoring his old Plymouth, just like Mike would have done.
Pete Kroeker’s 1960 Chevy Impala, dubbed “California Dreaming.” The paintwork is a Gene Winfield original, while the body rests on a 1986 Caprice frame and floor. And yes, the hinges are from a 1980-something Buick.
The “Old vs. New” thing is definitely popular this year. And not just with Camaros either:
Dave Tiechrow of Brandon brought out the V12-powered “Manitoba Kid” for the third year in a row.
And of course, what would a World of Wheels show be without a celebrity appearance?
No, I don’t know what these things are. Other than bitchin’.
Here’s the Riff Raff car club after a hard night setting up their drive-in theatre. I’m putting my money on them for best display-or at least, the coolest display.
Finally, a sight you will never see again: Travis Cool polishing the gas tank (or anything else for that matter) on his T-bucket rat rod.
That’s it for today, but come on down to the show. I’ll be around intermittently throughout the weekend at the Canadian Hot Rods magazine booth (near the Riff Raff drive-in). Feel free to stop by, say hi, and get a subscription to Canada’s Coolest car magazine!
