Mustangs & More!
The season’s just getting started, and already there’s a full line up of car shows for the discerning hot rodder. For those who have fine taste in BBQ hot dogs and staring at vintage steel, we recommend the following shows.
Manitoba:
The Manitoba Mustang & Ford Association is kicking off the year with the Ford & Ford Only Spring Breakout Show & Shine at Kildonan Place Shopping Centre in Winnipeg on Saturday, May 21st. The show itself opens to Ford products at noon, and you can ogle these Fords until 4 pm. Club members will be arriving in their Ford vehicles around 10-ish, at which time you can register your Ford and volunteer to help the other Ford guys, if so inclined. Oh, and did I mention it’s a Ford only show?
Ontario:
Parkhead ON is giving it up for the Grey Bruce Automotive Swap Meet from May 19th to May 22nd. Setting up a vendor booth will cost you $25, while admission is a measly $5 (kids under 12 are free). The event runs from 8 am to 7 pm. For more info, call (519) 377.7732 or (519) 935.2673.
Shoulders are gonna be hurtin’ after “Punch Buggy 4 Sick Kids” on Sunday, May 22nd. Taking over the prestigious Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto, the show attracts VW Beetles from all over Ontario to raise money for Sick Kids Hospital.
On Sunday, May 22nd, Boston Pizza in Rockland is opening their parking lot to the Uniglass Plus Ziebart car show series. The show runs from 4:30 to 8 pm. Admission is free, dash plaques are free, and prizes (if you win one) are free. The only thing you pay for is food inside the restaurant, and even that’s discounted. British Columbia:
Cheerio! It’s the 26th Annual “All British Field Meet” in Vancouver this weekend. It all starts on Friday evening with a Meet & Greet and dinner, followed by a car display and swap meet on Saturday, and a run to Whistler on Sunday. Sounds jolly good indeed, old chap! Ring up Mr. J. Stewart at jstewart (at) westerndriver.com, or have a looky-loo at their website atWesternDriver.com.
Creston BC will be holding their 6th annual Creston Valley Blossom Festival on May 22nd. The car show will shut down Canyon Street from 9 to 4, while the annoying guy at the coffee shop will complain about the required detours for the next six months. If you’re not one of those people, check out the Creston Valley Cruiser’s web site for more info.
Cumberland, BC’s “Cumberland Empire Days” will feature a car show component at the Cumberland Village Park. The show runs from 9 am to 4 pm, and will be accompanied by everything from a parade to a BMX show, a quilt show, and even a “5K or 10K fun run.” I think that involves travelling a certain distance without a car, although we’re not sure why you’d want to. Check out the website for more info.
Nanaimo, BC, home of Canadian Hot Rods magazine and the world’s greatest Nanaimo bars, will also be hosting a car show at the Nanaimo Costco parking lot on May 23rd. The show runs from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm. For more info, call Deb at (250) 390.3231.
