Abandoned Vehicles

“Eyesores,” “Tragedies,” and “Opportunities” are how many people would describe these abandoned vehicles on the Canadian Prairies and the mountains of BC.  However, the rust and decay that has set into these old heaps has transformed many of them into a new kind of organic beauty.  Simultaneously, they are a preservation of what they once were and a glimpse of what they will eventually rust into.

Have you subscribed yet?

All of us at the SundayCruiseFever.com production office are busier than a Toyota dealer’s recall department lately, so we don’t always have time to update this site at regular intervals.  That’s not really fair to you, the reader.

With that in mind, we’ve partnered up with Feedburner.com to provide a free subscription service.  These are sent out automatically every morning, between 5 and 7 am.  They don’t have pictures or the complete text (yet), but we’ll give you a pretty good hint as to what’s on the site that day.

All you have to do is enter your email in the grey box on the upper right hand side–we’ll do the rest.  And of course, we won’t sell your email addresses to the Viagra guy, or use them to spam you with offers of cheap travel or discount Rolex watches.  Just subscribe today, and never worry about missing out on SundayCruiseFever.com again!

Customer Appreciation Day!

A shop here in Ottawa recently had a small car show as their way of appreciating customers for their patronage.  Although the shop in question is just a regular Joe Mechanic kinda place–the sort of place you’d go to replace the brakes on your ’04 Cavalier–they certainly knew how to draw in a crowd of gorgeous cars.

Black Panther show truck complete with mini-bar

It didn’t just attract the same ’68 Camaros and 2010 Challengers, either-lots of cars that had never or rarely been seen on the ‘scene made an appearance.  Like the Chevy S-10 based “Black Panther” show truck, above.  Granted, an ’80s wraparound bar and airbrushed graphics might not be your thing, but we will make you this promise–60% of the time, a black panther-themed truck works every time!

Rideau Carleton Raceway Cruise Night TONIGHT!!

Lamborghini Countach at Rideau Carleton Raceway cruise night!Just a friendly reminder that tonight (Wednesday, August 11th) is cruise night at the Rideau Carleton Raceway.  The show gets underway around 5 pm, and goes until, well, until everyone leaves.  It’s a great, low-pressure way to show off your ride or, if you don’t have a ride, it’s a great way to check out interesting vehicles and meet great people.  And just a few miles outside of the city of Ottawa, it’s a nice way to get away for a few hours.  Food is available (chip truck outside, full buffet meals inside), and the slot machines are open if you-or your significant other-gets tired of looking at cars.

So come on out to Rideau Carleton Raceway tonight, from 5 to dusk.  We’ll be waiting!

Brandon Super Run 2010 Part 2

Brandon Super Run 2010, photo by Alan Gingles

As promised, here’s more of the action from the semi-annual Super Run in Brandon.  And once again, don’t thank me for this coverage, thank Alan Gingles, founder of Al’s Haul Away, and one of our site’s advertisers.  And if you’re really keen, give him a call if you need moving/yardwork/hauling/junk removal in the Neepawa/Minnedosa area.  You’ll regret it if you don’t!

Brandon Super Run 2010 Part 1

Brandon Super Run is one of the most anticipated and exciting events on the car show circuit in Western Canada.  And while our Head Cheese was off galavanting in Brockville, friend and contributor Alan Gingles covered the car show in great detail.

And if you’re wondering why all the pictures seem to follow a single theme (ie, nothing after 1960), well, consider that this is what Alan drove to the show with:

Alan Gingle's 1931 Essex Pickup Truck

So yeah, Alan has a bit of a bias.  The upside is that he’s pretty handy with a camera-amongst other things.  He’s also the proud proprietor of Al’s Haul Away, which advertises on our site.  If you need someone with bitchin’ taste in hot rods to haul away junk or help you move in the Neepawa area, Al’s your guy.
